When you get into town, look for the lavender newsboxes for the Philadelphia Gay News. Millennium Coffee has a loyal clientele that helps it compete against the Starbucks and such around the corner. On the mellower side, Giovanni's Room is a well-stocked bookstore. The one that stands out in my mind is the Bike Stop, if only because of the leather crowd. There are a number of bar hangouts, of course. 12th Air Command (if it's still around) seemed to attract a younger crowd. The granddaddy is Woody's, a big dance club. You'll probably be better off socializing in the clubs versus meeting people in any hotel. By hanging out at the gym, I was able to find out most of the following information by osmosis. You might be able to get a day pass if you stay at the Alexander Inn. Although my memory is somewhat faded and even outdated, I did spend a lot of time in Washington Square West aka the Gayborhood, mostly to work out at the 12th Street Gym, which is not a bathhouse BTW but a legitimate gay-owned fitness facility with a diverse clientele.
